Hazardous Chemicals Register
v2.3
Purpose. This register lists every hazardous chemical held on site, where it is stored, the quantity and the date of its safety data sheet.
1.Purpose of the register
The register is the single list of hazardous chemicals held at Dandenong South and Geelong. It must be available to workers, health and safety representatives and emergency services. It is maintained by the Operations and WHS Coordinator and reviewed quarterly.
2.What is recorded
Each entry records the product name, supplier, hazard class, storage location, maximum quantity held, safety data sheet date and the date the product was approved for use. Safety data sheets older than five years must be replaced.
- Product and supplier
- Hazard classification and pictograms
- Storage location and maximum quantity
- Safety data sheet issue date
- Approval date and approver
3.Current entries
The register currently holds 38 products, including offset inks, fountain solution, blanket and roller wash, isopropyl alcohol, UV varnish, hot melt adhesive, wide format solvent inks, flexographic plate wash and general cleaning chemicals. The largest quantities are blanket wash in the press room and solvent ink in the Geelong studio.
4.Adding or removing a product
A new product must be approved before purchase using the request section of this register, with the safety data sheet attached. Products no longer in use must be removed from site by the waste contractor and the entry marked as removed with the date.
5.Placards and manifest
Where quantities exceed the placarding thresholds the site will display the required placards and maintain a manifest for the fire brigade. Current quantities are below the manifest threshold and this is checked at each quarterly review.
6.Review
The register will be reviewed quarterly against physical stock and after any new product approval. The review date and reviewer will be recorded on the front sheet.
