The situation

What has happened

The health and safety committee meets on 16 September and Helena Marsh wants a documented safety walk of the press room and bindery beforehand. Open items in the Incident and Hazard Register include a rattling extraction hood over the B2 washup station, a courier walking through the forklift zone, and the folder gluer guard damage. The Hazardous Chemicals Register was last reviewed in April and the press room store has had new deliveries since. The walk must produce a ranked list of risks and recommended actions that the committee can assign to owners, and the findings must reference the relevant policies and procedures.

Your brief. Plan and carry out a safety walk of the press room and bindery, verify the open register items and the chemical storage, identify new hazards, rank the risks and prepare a short written report with recommended actions for the committee.

What to look for

Evidence guide

The checklist must be traceable to the policy and procedures, the walk must verify the open items rather than restate them, and chemical storage must be compared with the register. Look for correct use of the register and the log for new findings, a sensible risk ranking and actions with owners and timeframes. The report must be concise and suitable for a committee.

The student's evidence summary lists every record they created or changed in the systems named above, their notes and the tasks they ticked. Verify it against the deliverables and your own assessment tool.
