Emergency Response and Evacuation Plan

Purpose. This plan sets out how the business prepares for and responds to fire, chemical spill, medical emergency, power failure and other emergencies at each site.

1.Scope

This plan applies to the Dandenong South plant and the Geelong studio and to all workers, contractors and visitors. It supports the emergency planning requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and the site fire safety obligations.

2.Emergency control organisation

The Chief Warden is the Operations and WHS Coordinator with the Press Room Supervisor as deputy. Each department has a trained area warden on each shift and first aiders are listed on the notice board. Wardens will be trained annually and their names displayed at each exit.

3.Fire

On discovering a fire, raise the alarm, alert the warden, and attempt to extinguish only if trained and safe to do so. Press room and chemical store fires must not be fought with water. All workers must evacuate to the assembly point in the front car park when the evacuation tone sounds and must not re-enter until the Chief Warden gives the all clear.

4.Chemical spill

Small spills will be contained using the nearest spill kit by trained workers wearing the specified protective equipment. Large spills or spills of flammable liquid must trigger area evacuation, extraction shutdown and a call to emergency services. All spills must be reported using the Incident and Hazard Report Form.

5.Medical emergency

Call for a first aider and, where the injury is serious, call emergency services. The first aid room and defibrillator are located beside the warehouse office. Machine entrapment must be treated by stopping and isolating the machine first, then freeing the person under the supervisor's direction.

6.Power failure and other events

Presses and finishing machines must be switched to off so they do not restart when power returns. Emergency lighting will guide workers to exits. Bomb threats, severe weather and gas leaks are handled under the instructions held by the Chief Warden.

7.Drills and review

A full evacuation drill will be held every six months on each site and a chemical spill drill annually. Drill outcomes will be recorded and this plan updated with the lessons learnt.
