Occupational Health and Safety Policy
v3.2
Purpose. This policy sets out how CAQA PrintWorks Media protects the health and safety of workers, contractors and visitors at every site.
1.Purpose
CAQA PrintWorks Media is committed to providing a workplace where no one is harmed by printing, finishing, signage or warehouse work. This policy states the commitments of the business and the responsibilities of every person on site. It applies to all employees, labour hire workers, apprentices, contractors and visitors at Dandenong South, Geelong and any client site where installation work is done.
2.Commitments
The business will comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Victoria), its regulations and applicable compliance codes. Management will provide safe plant, guarded machinery, safe systems of work, information, training and supervision. Hazards will be identified, risks will be assessed and controls will follow the hierarchy of controls, with elimination and engineering controls preferred over administrative controls and personal protective equipment.
- Machine guarding on every press, guillotine, folder, die cutter and gluer
- Isolation and lockout before cleaning, clearing jams or maintenance
- Manual handling controls including lifters, trolleys and pallet turners
- Safe storage and handling of inks, solvents, adhesives and cleaning chemicals
- Forklift traffic management in the warehouse and yard
3.Responsibilities
The General Manager holds overall responsibility for health and safety and must ensure resources are available. Department leads must implement this policy in their areas, complete risk assessments, deliver toolbox talks and act on reported hazards. Every worker must follow safe work procedures, use guards and personal protective equipment, report hazards and incidents on the day they occur, and stop work that they believe is unsafe.
4.Consultation
Workers will be consulted on matters that affect their health and safety through the monthly health and safety committee, shift toolbox talks and the hazard reporting system. Health and safety representatives are elected for each designated work group and will be given paid time and training to carry out their role. Consultation outcomes will be recorded and communicated on the notice board.
5.Incident reporting and investigation
All injuries, near misses, property damage events and hazards must be reported to the supervisor immediately and recorded in the Incident and Hazard Register within 24 hours using the Incident and Hazard Report Form. Notifiable incidents must be reported to the regulator by the Operations and WHS Coordinator without delay and the scene must be preserved. Every incident will be investigated to find root causes and corrective actions will be tracked to closure.
6.Review
This policy will be reviewed every twelve months, after any notifiable incident, or when legislation or plant changes. The health and safety committee will review performance against the targets of zero lost time injuries and 100 percent completion of corrective actions within the agreed timeframe.
